Monitoring and Management for Java Applications

Azul Mission Control is included with every Azul Platform Core and Azul Platform Prime subscription. When coupled with open-source Flight Recorder technology, Mission Control delivers low-overhead, interactive open source monitoring and management capabilities for Java workloads. With Mission Control you can connect to – and provide visibility of – active JVMs from Azul Zulu builds of OpenJDK running Java 8, 11 or later, and get real-time visibility into all aspects of a running application. Please note that JDK 17 (or later) is required to run Azul Mission Control.

Azul Mission Control is a fully-tested build of JDK Mission Control, which was open sourced by Oracle and is managed as a project under the OpenJDK umbrella. Azul has backported the JDK Mission Control code and added support for production applications running on Java SE versions 8, 11, or later.

Community builds of Azul Mission Control are free to download and use without restrictions and will provide monitoring of any Java 8, 11 or later JVM that has implemented the Flight Recorder technology as part of the JVM.

How to Install

To run Azul Mission Control, you need to have a JDK (not a JRE) for Azul Zulu 17 or later installed. You can download it here.

Download one of the Azul Mission Control installation packages (see the download table above) to a reasonable location on your target system.

The generic installation process is as follows:

  1. Download an Azul Mission Control package.
  2. Extract or install the package.

Installation Tips

During the first run of Azul Mission Control, you may observe notifications from your operating system. For example:

  • Windows Defender will alert that zmc.exe is going to access the network or
  • macOS users will be asked to confirm that you really want to launch a downloaded application.
